Looking back over the year a lot has happened in the timber industry because of many different variables. The economy and the weather being two of them. With the recession, the housing market took a hard hit which affected the timber industry as a whole. Not only in Texas but in every part of the United States. Although we have had to reduce the number of hours, Ward Timber has been very fortunate in that we have not had to stop production. After the economy started working its way back from the recession the rains started and as everyone in the timber industry knows too much rain is not a good thing. The amount of rainfall we have seen this past year is way beyond the norm, in fact records were broken in some areas. A lot of businesses have had to shut their doors and/or lay off many of their employees since the recession started. Ward Timber has been very fortunate in not having to do this. I am looking forward to a dryer year and a better economy in 2010. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. —LP
